Fractal-Shaped Antennas for GSM + DCS

The European Information Technology Prize WINNER

In 1997, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya through the Electromagnetics & Photonics Engineering group (EEF) and the company Sistemas Radiantes F.Moyano S.A. signed up a R+D agreement to develope fractal shape multiband antennas for the GSM and DCS cellular telephon systems. At the present time, two dual antennas for micro-picocel environments have been already developed. The first one, the FractusTM MSPK antenna is a ceiling-mounting omnidirectional antenna with the same basic electromagnetic behavior (radiation pattern and input parameters) at the GSM (890MHz-960MHz) and DCS (1710MHz-1880MHz) bands. The second one, the FractusTM Panel-01 is a wall-mounting sectorial-pattern patch antenna, which also fulfills the requirements of the DCS and GSM systems simultaneously. The antennas have been recently awarded with the European Information Technology Prize 1998 !
